Overview

Under the direction of the Presbyterian Healthcare Services Vice President Finance, the Director of Finance position is responsible for the overall planning, direction and operation of the financial services of Presbyterian Delivery System (PDS). Duties include but are not limited to directing all accounting, budgeting, strategic financial planning, statutory reporting, financial reporting, asset control and disbursement processing functions in addition to coordinating the preparation of all financial statements. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a related field required.
  • 5 years of experience in healthcare finance, and corporate finance techniques.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in leading complex financial analysis and problem solving. Excellent leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and manages the preparation of the annual budget, the long-range financial plan, capital plan and monthly/annual financial reports for PDS. Directs the development of financial performance targets for PDS. Ensures that senior leaders have the appropriate information to make informed decisions and to monitor progress towards PDS goals.

  • Coordinates and manages the general ledger reporting and analysis, from the sources of data through the preparation of financial statements. Includes the verification and authentication of information received from the feeder systems, adjusting and reclassifying journal entries, the consolidation and publication of financial statements, and the preparation and distribution of various reports for PDS.

  • Identifies the appropriate metrics and external comparative data to measure PDS s progress towards its goals.

  • Participates in the development and oversees the implementation of financial/accounting policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure the integrity of the financial reports for PDS.

  • Directs the development of the business plans, NPV analysis other identified analyses for new business ventures, or acquisition of practices. Participates as the lead Finance liaison for merger, acquisition, sale transactions that involve hospital-based services.

  • Coordinates and prepares finance materials for ADS and regional meetings of the related Board of Directors. Presents those materials to these Boards.

  • Reviews operating results with the leadership team, and as needed with departmental leaders, , assists in the identification of opportunities for improvement and assists with the preparation of corrective action plans where necessary

  • Prepares and directs the preparation, analysis and reporting of product line, payer, departmental and other issue specific reports for PDS.

  • Prepares PDS specific models for governmental and commercial payer contract fees to ensure appropriate income and cash flow. Participates in PDS contract analysis and negotiations.

  • Reviews billing and collection patterns and develops improvement recommendations to senior leadership. Evaluates the adequacy of the contractual allowances, discounts, bad debts and reserves to ensure the accuracy of the financial reports. Directs the preparation of the actuarially determined IBNR.

  • Interprets and ensures compliance with third-party payer regulations including Medicare, Medicaid, commercial and managed care.

  • Provides assistance to senior leadership in the development of and preparation of managerial and productivity reports.

  • Coordinates and manages the external audit process for PDS utilizing the standard tools and approaches developed by PHS.

  • Plans, coordinates and supervises the operational, personnel and financial activities for all assigned departments.

  • Understands, embraces and practices the continuous quality improvement principles and the criteria outlined by MBNQA.
