The Director of Nursing plans, directs and coordinates the operational, financial and personnel activities of designated departments. 

Qualifications

  • Masters degree required in a field which supports the accountabilities of the position or Masters attainable within five years.
  • State of New Mexico Nursing License required.
  • Registered Nurse - NM
  • Three to five years clinical experience required in a related area.  
  • Experience in Pediatric Critical Care (PICU) OR Pediatric Oncology preferred. 
  • 2+ years nursing management experience preferred. 

Responsibilities

  • Performs personnel management functions including hiring, coaching, counseling, evaluating, and terminating.

  • Maintains a shared governance model on the unit and supports/participates in the system wide councils.

  • Develops, implements, and monitors standards based practice and assures quality care is delivered to all patients.

  • Interacts and coordinates activities with a variety of health care agents, regulatory agencies, and vendors.

  • Prepares, implements and monitors department operating and capital budgets.

  • Facilitates effective communication between administration, staff, physicians, other departments, patients, families, and the general public. Participates in conflict resolution as necessary and acts as an effective problem solver.

  • Exemplifies a high standard of leadership qualities and professionalism. Mentors the staff in developing and achieving professional goals.

  • Maintains current knowledge of information in related field through seminars, workshops and publications.

  • Assures implementation of change projects/initiatives. Assists in the development and implementation of the department strategic plan.

  • Performs other functions as required
