Assistant Chief Nurse Executive

This Assistant Chief Nurse Executive (ACNE) represents the functional knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics required to produce a set of activities that generate observable and measurable outcomes. Core competencies include the American Organization of Nurse Leaders (AONL) nurse executive competencies and are focused on developing an effective, accountable, and professional nursing workforce and nursing practice. This position is responsible for clinical nursing practice and establishing standards for patient care services, regulatory readiness, and achievement of clinical and patient experience results; collaboration to ensure safe and effective nurse staffing and integration with key areas to achieve efficient operations, patient flow, patient placement, and resource utilization. The scope of this role includes identified departments at Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital. This position provides leadership for identified programs at Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital, new programs, continuous improvement projects, and assists with cross departmental initiatives.

Located in Albuquerque's northeast heights, Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital serves the greater Albuquerque and east mountain communities. This satellite medical campus provides a wide range of medical care, including behavioral health, a wide range of surgical services, adult medical specialties, cancer care, rehabilitation, and an emergency department. 

 

• Masters of Science Degree in Nursing required. Masters degree in field supportive to the accountabilities of the position required.
• State of New Mexico Nursing License required. Registered Nurse - NM
• Five years of progressive management experience in nursing leadership required.

• Participates in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for nursing at Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital at the direction of the Chief Nurse Executive.
• Supports the coordination of annual rhythm planning process to include project and operation plan development and submission process for nursing.
• Leads identified PH and PKH departmental efforts to maintain regulatory readiness through process improvement, measurement, and policy oversight.
• Acts in the role as Presbyterian nursing leader to PresNow sites, ensuring joint venture is meeting the regulatory and process expectations according to Presbyterian standards.
• Collaboration with clinical allied health partners and medical staff to provide leadership for patient care processes and ensure quality, safety, and an exceptional care experience.
• Evaluate and improve the quality and safety of nursing care provided.
• Accountable for meeting budgetary/financial performance for assigned areas. Supports financial health by working collaboratively with CNE on adjustments of budgets as indicated by variances and creation of departmental/divisional budgets for upcoming year. Prepare and document adherence to budgets.
• Serve as a resource for other PH, PKH, and CDS leaders on nursing communication and integration issues.
• Accountable to lead evidence-based nursing practice and attainment of expected care outcomes.
• Accountable to ensure safe and sufficient nurse staffing and is responsible for the oversight and management of these resources.
• Provides leadership and is actively involved in nursing recognition events.
• Facilitates leader development and Human Resource management through one-on-one coaching, counseling, training, and mentoring for leaders/managers/staff to emphasize culture and behavior changes to achieve higher overall patient experience scores.
• Performs human resource management functions including hiring, coaching, evaluating, counseling, and dismissals utilizing hire right tools and bundles.
• Participates in conflict resolution as necessary and acts as an effective problem solver.
• Participates in professional governance councils with CNE and uses influence to motivate and inspire council to achieve exceptional patient experience results.
• Demonstrates the AONL Nurse Executive Competencies which represent the functional knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics required to generate observable and measurable outcomes. These competencies include professionalism, communication and relationship management, knowledge of the health care environment, and business skills and principles.
• Aligns, organizes, implements, and drives work plans for the Nursing Strategic Plan. Utilizes evidence-based data in goal setting and decision making.
• Organizes, implements, drives action plans for quality, safety, and care experience.
